In this lesson, you will write a professional cover letter to help a potential employerget to know your qualifications better.
A cover letter is a formal letter you send to a business asking to be considered for a specific job.
An effective cover letter allows your personality to come through, but it still uses a professional tone.
In this lesson, you will use Google Docs to write a cover letter.
You could also write a letter expressing interest in a volunteer position or an internship.
Usually, you will send your cover letter along with a resume.
A resume is a detailed list of your accomplishments, work experience, and skills.
Employers often read the cover letter before looking at the resume.
A great cover letter may even convince the employer to look at the resume,so it’s important that it makes a good first impression.
Your cover letter should not go into too much detail about your job history or accomplishments, but should:Give a sense of who you are,Tell why you want to work for the company,And briefly discuss what you have to offer.
This lesson uses Google Docs to do research on the employer and write your letter, but you could apply these skills in any word processing application.
