Welcome to Technology at Work.

In this unit, you’ll explore how technology changes the way we work and even what jobs we do.

Technology determines what information is available, how it is accessed, and what people can do with it.

Businesses use technology to create innovative products and to simplify tasks.

For example, credit card companies use software to automatically identify patterns in spending to detect when a credit card may have been stolen.

In the past, a company might hire employees to review credit card records to identify suspicious activity.

With technology, a few people can do the same task more accurately and more efficiently.

Because technology changes so quickly, there is a good chance that your future job doesn't even exist yet!

After all, a few years ago, there was no such thing as a driverless car engineer, a web app developer, a drone operator, or a social media manager!

Now there are lots of people with these jobs.

Your future job will almost certainly use technology.

You may become: An analyst who uses data to pick great sports teams; A mechanic who uses robots to do the heavy lifting; A fashion designer who embeds wearable technology into clothing; Or a doctor who uses virtual reality to look inside the body.

Technology will be a source of jobs in the future, and every job is likely to use computer science in some way.

And, because technology is growing and expanding, it will also create new jobs you may never have thought of before.

In this unit, you will explore the ways technology affects the workplace, as well as potential careers.

Now, it’s your turn.
