In the last video, you chose a topic you’d like to research.

In this video, you will use Google Search and Google *Advanced* Search to find specific information about your topic.

To begin, open a new tab or window to the Google search page.

Type in one or more search terms.

This example searches for information on how to make a video go viral.

This is just an example.

Use search terms that relate to *your* topic.

This search returns a long list of results -- but many have nothing to do with making a viral video.

The results include: The definition of viral Viruses that make people sick As well as results about sites that have gone viral.

To get more specific results, limit the search.

To omit certain words from your search, type a *minus* sign before the words.

This tells Google search *not* to include results with these words.

These results are more specific.

They show websites about viral videos and other viral media.

But they still don’t include information about *how* to make a video go viral.

To search for an exact phrase, put the search terms in quotation marks.

This returns only pages with the same *words* in the same *order*.

If you don’t remember how to limit your results in a basic internet search, or if you want to be even *more* specific, perform an “Advanced search.”

In a new tab or window, go to Google dot com and select Advanced Search.

A page appears with boxes to narrow your search.

Use Advanced Search to find pages with all of your search terms; or an exact word or phrase; To exclude certain words from your search; or limit your search in other ways.

Use various search strategies and terms, and take time to identify relevant and credible sources.

When you have refined your search enough to get relevant results, move on to the next video to make notes about your research.

Now, it’s your turn: Use Google Search and Advanced search to find credible websites with information about your topic.

Refine your search terms until the results fit your topic.

Then, move on to the next video to record information on your search.
