1. Budget to Make Good Financial Decisions

Playback Speed:

Hey, I’m Mari.

Throughout your life, you will make many financial decisions.

Some seem small but really add up, like whether to eat fast food or cook your own meal.

Some are larger, like which home to purchase or which college to attend.

Managing your finances can be stressful.

Nearly 75 percent of people report that money is a significant worry in their lives!

But learning how to manage and budget your money can help you live well and stress less.

To make financial decision-making easier and more accurate, use spreadsheets.

Spreadsheets help you collect, organize, manipulate, and analyze data, and organize it in a way that it easy to understand.

In this unit, you will research and collect data about expenses you are likely to have at some point in your life.

You will organize and calculate that data using spreadsheets.

You will start by researching a long-term, contractual purchase, like a cell phone and a data plan.

You will take a look at a fictitious checking account and categorize the expenses in a monthly budget.

You’ll calculate mont hly payments and interest for car loans.

Finally, you will apply what you learned to plan a vacation on a budget.

Now that you have an idea of what you will create in this unit, move on to the next video to start the first activity.
