Kick off the new school year with lessons from our Back to School 2022 collection to help students express themselves, build relationships, and stay organized.

Share Your Machine Learning Journal to Get Different Perspectives

Playback Speed:

In the main lesson, you created a machine learning journal where you recorded your thoughts, ideas, and reflections on fairness in machine learning.

You considered questions such as: What are some reasons you wouldn’t want to share your personal driving data?

What questions or concerns do you have about using a computer to make product recommendations?

What could improve a computer’s accuracy when identifying items in a category?

And why is it so important to use diverse data when training a machine?

You also searched for and inserted images to represent your chosen topic.

Then, you considered what you had excluded and added additional images to present a more inclusive and diverse list.

In this extension, you will share your journal with others to learn from each other and get new perspectives on machine learning.

Perhaps you would like to share your journal with your classmates so you can see the topics they chose and identify more omitted images.

Or you could share your journal with your family so you can talk about the benefits and drawbacks of machine learning together.

To begin, open your journal.

In the document, click “Share” and type in the email addresses of the people you want to share your journal with.

Select the permission you want to use: “Edit” means the person you share with can make changes directly in your document.

“Comment” allows them to make comments, but not change your journal.

And “view” lets them see your journal only.

Choose “Comment” so they can let you know if they find an image that was excluded from your list, if they have new or different perspectives about machine learning, and more.

Write a note explaining why you are sharing your journal.

Good job!

More and diverse perspectives are “always” valuable -- in machine learning, they are “necessary.”

Now, it’s your turn: Open your journal Click “share,” and add the email addresses of the people you want to share with.

Give them permission to comment.

Write a note.

And share your machine learning journal.
