In this video, you will begin to build your presentation by creating the first slide.

You will: Choose a theme for your deck, Type your name and format the text, Write an elevator pitch to introduce yourself, And include an optional picture of yourself if you like.

The first slide sets the tone for the rest of the deck.

It is the first thing that potential employers will see so it’s important that it be memorable.

One way to begin is to select a theme.

A “theme” is a preset group of colors, backgrounds, fonts, and layouts.

Go back to the slide deck you created in the last video and select a theme for your deck.

Select a theme that looks professional and won’t be too distracting.

You may want to have a theme only on the first slide to keep the others less cluttered so that your information is clear.

Next, type your name and format it to stand out.

The text should be the largest text on the slide and should catch the eye right away.

Under your name, write an elevator pitch.

An “elevator pitch” is a quick introduction that sums up who you are and what you are trying to do.

This should only be a sentence or two.

You’ll have an opportunity to list your qualifications and skills on the next slides.

Format this text to be smaller than your name, but it should still stand out.

Move the text boxes so they are aligned.

You may also want to upload a picture of yourself, which means to transfer data from your computer to the internet.

If you do this, consider using an “action” picture of yourself, like doing an experiment in class or performing in a play.

Now, it’s your turn: Choose a theme for your slide, Type your name and format the text, Write an elevator pitch to introduce yourself, And include an optional picture of yourself if you like.
