In this video, you will create the beginning paragraph of your cover letter to introduce yourself to the potential employer.

A great cover letter may help an employer decide to look at your resume.

And a great first paragraph may be what makes them decide to continue reading your letter, so it’s important to make a good first impression.

Your first paragraph should be a few sentences long and demonstrate why you’re excited about the job and want to work for the company.

If you know someone who is an employee of the company and they have agreed to let you use their name, include it in the first paragraph.

It can be very helpful to have someone who can speak on your behalf with the hiring manager or human resources department.

Be sure to mention the title of the job you’re applying for.

Write another sentence describing what you admire about the company and/or their product.

If you found it in your research, bring up the company’s mission statement and why it matters to you or aligns with your own values.

Now, it’s your turn: Write the first sentence, including the name of someone you know and the title of the job you’re applying for, And write another sentence describing what you admire about the company and how their mission statement aligns with your values.

Instructions

  1. Write the first sentence with the name of someone you know and the job title.
