1. Introduction to Give and Receive Feedback

Feedback is an important communication skill.

To give feedback is to provide suggestions that help someone improve their work.

You might ask for feedback: to help you solve a problem, to seek the opinion of an expert, or to get a different perspective on your work.

Feedback can be given to someone in writing or verbally.

A colleague or friend might offer feedback, and you might respond to their suggestions or ask clarifying questions.

Then, you can listen to how they respond and perhaps make different suggestions.

Giving and receiving feedback is a way to work together to reach goals and keep improving.

In this lesson, you will give and receive written feedback.

You will: Take five minutes to create an invitation to an event in a document, Digitally share your invitation with a partner to ask for feedback, Comment on your partner’s invitation, Then, review your partner’s feedback, and decide what changes to make on your invitation.

As you create your invitation and give and receive feedback, you will: Create and name a new document in Google Docs; add text, images, and formatting to the document; and insert, reply to, and resolve comments in Google Docs.

The example in this video demonstrates asking for feedback on an invitation to a workplace retirement party.

You will ask for feedback on your own invitation, which can be to a real event, or you can make up one.

Write your invitation for a specific audience, such as coworkers, classmates, or group members.

This will make it easier to ask for feedback on how to improve the invitation to fit the needs of your audience.

Keep your invitation short, so you spend just five minutes creating your document and the rest of this lesson giving and receiving feedback.

Your invitation doesn’t have to be perfect.

In fact, it shouldn’t be.

The more improvement it needs, the easier it will be for your partner to give you lots of feedback during this lesson.

To begin this lesson, sign in to your Google account.

If you don’t have a Google account, create one before beginning this activity.

Then, open a new tab in your browser.

Navigate to Google Drive, and create a new document in Google Docs.

Give your new document a descriptive name.

Then, move on to the next video to add text to your invitation and prepare it for feedback.
