So far in this activity, you navigated to the Google search engine and typed in search terms to find information.

You are on your way to using the internet to help you find information about activities for you and your friend to do together.

In this video, you will make your search terms more specific.

That way, the search results will be more helpful for you when choosing things to do.

This is called refining your search.

To refine your search, use keywords.

To start, return to the tab with the Google search engine.

Keep this video open in a separate tab so you can easily go back and forth between the 2.

Then, click in the search bar.

Your search for movies or another general term probably returned some useful results, but you have to look through a long list of information to find what you’re looking for.

Refine your search, so the results contain specific details you can use to decide on your activities.

You might search for movies that are: playing in your hometown...

and that are rated PG-13...

playing at a certain time...

or in a certain genre.

If you would like to see a particular movie, type the title in the search bar.

Or, search for movie theaters in your area, so you can check movie times at a specific location.

Use keywords to refi ne internet searches on 2 different activities you and your friend might do together.

The titles, times, places, names, and other details you typed into the search bar are your keywords.

A keyword doesn’t have to be a single word.

It can be a whole phrase that contains several terms you would like to search for.

No matter what type of information you are looking for to help with work, school, or activities, using keywords in a search engine will help you find it more effectively.

The more specific the keywords you type in, the more accurate and informative your search results will be.

Keep practicing!
